The effect of
Sin on the
Human Brain

Sin and the Brain...

There is something that the Medical Field isn't focusing on and that is Biblical truths and perspective. But the more science that is revealed, the deeper the reinforcement that Scripture has been right all along.

Our Medical Field is incapable of seeing

something that they don't believe in,

But they are missing the connection to

sin and the deformation of the brain.

The findings - are staggering!

What I found - is that the behavior of sinning actually  causes more sinning... due to the way our brains are created to encourage our behavior through our  internal desires. (1) (2) (3)

How sin physically affects the brain

How sinning actually changes the brain

I found links in science that prove that the brain functions differently when someone sins in a higher degree, then the average person. When someone sins to a higher degree, the brain fires and functions differently than those who are not actively sinning with intensity. In fact, those who sin greater at a younger age and with more intensity seem to have greater changes in the brain - that will result in more sinful behavior in the future. I also found that those who pursue grievous sin, have brain changes that negatively affect them.  (4) (5) (6)

By 'sins' -  I mean actions that go against the Commandments of God.

Things like:

Drug abuse

Premarital sex

Criminal behavior

Pathological lying

Excessive drinking

Sexual abuse to others

Mental abuse to others

Physical abuse to others

Emotional abuse to others

And much, much, much more

Those that actively pursue these types of sinful activities, build stronger brains bent towards future sinning. (7)

Pathological lying is an interesting aspect to these individuals, as it reminds me of the father of lies. As 'lying' reveals the obedience to the enemy, as it seems to be wholly present within the behavior of those who love to sin.

The level of sinning, the increase of the actions, and the repetition of certain sins, impacts the brain and how it functions. The more someone sins, the more prone to sinning again in that same matter they will be, because the brain seems to be altering and mutating to accommodate that activity. (8)

The more someone sins, the more the brain changes and the pattern becomes destined for that doer to keep doing it.

What is interesting, was that I also studied the brain of a psychopath and how they also reiterated these same findings. People that are clinically proven to be psychopathic in nature have had a history of grievously sinning, and at a younger age than most average kids their age. Revealing that the earlier someone greatly sins as a ‘normal behavior,’ the impression is huge and helps dictate future decisions with sin throughout their life and the effects on their brain. (9) (10) (11) (12) (13) (14) (15) (16) (17)

I also found evidence, that makes me believe that we, as a culture, are actually creating future psychopaths by introducing violent, sexual, and sinful games and films, as these are shown to affect the brain in the same negative way as participating in these activities. (18)

But there is more, as sinning also changes the matter of the brain to be able to function and process normally. (19) (20) (21) Sin disrupts the correct levels of gray and white matter of the brain and make the brain unable to function and send messages through the other parts of the brain correctly.

Criminal psychologist, Michael Woodworth, who works as a forensic psychologist at the University of British Columbia in Canada, suspects that 1 out of every  4 men that are incarcerated are clinical psychopaths. Meaning, that they have a seared conscience  and do not fear consequences. (23) (24) (25) (26) This is consistent with sin levels and the effects on the brain.

Psalm 36:1 states, "Transgression (sin) speaks to the wicked deep in his heart (inner mind, brain); there is no fear of  God before his eyes."

What is interesting about this verse, is that the Hebrew word for ‘heart’ can be translated the “the inner man's mind or brain.” (27)

When these brain parts are not functioning at their created capacity, there are ‘malfunctions.’ These malfunctions are believed to be the cause of “troubling  personality disorders, such as antisocial personality disorder, known as psychopathy” (28). Studies have been done that reveal people with antisocial criminal tendencies have a smaller than normal amygdala, which is the controlling part of the brain. (29) (30) (31) (32)

Brain scans of those who are psychopathic and those who are actively looking at pornography are eerily similar. With certain parts of the brain both affected by it. Which is interesting, as the constant conditioning to sinning and loving it are both high. As if viewing pornography repetitively also changes the brain, to be psychopathic in nature and the desires of the mind are actually assisting with sinful desires; as desiring triggers the reward system in the brain.  (33) (34) (35) (36) (37) (38) (39) (40) (41)

Pornography users and psychopaths have similar brain functioning.

This actually makes logical sense. As those who are psychopathic are calloused to others' feelings and emotions, which is the same as those who view pornography, as they have little-to-no sympathy to the people they objectify and are unfaithful to. As well as the evidence of pathological lying that is also common and connected with both porn addicts and psychopaths. (42) (43) (44)

Gray matter anomalies are common to psychopathy... (8) (9) (16)

Gray matter anomalies are common to pornography users... (41) (58)

But it isn't just pornography!

But other activities that promote sin.

Gray Matter anomalies are common to violent video game players... (18)

Gray Matter anomalies are common to marijuana users... (50)

Gray Matter anomalies are common to gamblers... (51)

Gray Matter anomalies are common to addicts... (59) (60) (62)

There is a connection with certain parts of the brain where the messages of conscience comes and are weakened through those who persistently sin, making their consciences weak. Making their consciences medically weak, as their routes to certain parts of the brain are cut off and seared from functioning normally.

1 Timothy 4:2, "...through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared."

Why would our medical field fail to connect the dots of sinning and the brain changes that occur? Surely I can NOT be the only one who looks at the charts and can see the connections of sinning and the link to brain abnormalities and dysfunctions. But you can't see what you are not looking for...

But maybe then, they would have to admit that our Bible is true. As I looked into this, and list a ton of
Scripture throughout this research, I will show you one section of Scripture that reiterates what brain scans are now revealing with clear accuracy. (45) (46) (47) (48)

I put into brackets some of the other Greek word translations, as our translation sometimes picks which one to use. For example the term ‘heart’ can mean physical ‘mind or brain’ as it is where our behavior comes from. This reality that these terms can actually be scientific is staggering!

Romans 1:21-31 states, "For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile (perverted) in their thinking, and their foolish (moral defect) hearts (inner mind, brain) were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools (moral defect), and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts (desires) of their hearts (inner mind, brain) to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,  because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable  (shameful) passions (lusts). For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave (delivered) them up to a debased (morally dysfunctional) mind (brain) to do what ought not to be done.  They were filled (having to perform and complete) with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors (discoverer) of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless (can’t keep a covenant and lying), heartless, ruthless. "

Again, our Biblical Christian verbiage might be literal after all, as the brain functions in such a way that makes the doer behave in what they desire.

If this is true, then repetition of doing sinful behavior actually affects the brain to continue in sinful behavior. It would be safe to conclude, that sinning actually negatively affects the brain and supports Scripture that states in Romans 8:7 that, “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.” (Italics mine) (49) (50) (51) (52) (53) (54) (55)

It ‘cannot’ submit to God's Law because the continual sinning, actually makes the brain more functional towards sinning. It is like active sinning leads towards more lawlessness. And active deeds of righteousness leads to being more righteousness. It is almost like practicing sinning leads to acting more lawlessness. And practicing righteousness leads one to behave more righteously. (56) (57) (58) (59) (60) (61) (62) (63)

This is Scripture!

1 John 3:4-10 states, "Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sinNo one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother."

Hosea 5:4a states, "Their deeds (what they practice) do not permit them to return to their God (of the Bible)."

So the science of the mind and the brain is reiterated in and throughout Scripture

That is why the Lord reiterates the idea, that when you come to the Lord, you need to renew your mind (brain). For it is only the Lord God in Heaven that can change your mind and your brain

It is like the Scripture comes to life through the works of science. Amazing.

So are we just stuck with a bad mind and brain, if we have behaved unrighteously? Are we destined to a life of disobedience, all because we have been a slave to sin with our brain

Nope. Not at all! It's never too late to come to Jesus. The Lord God of the universe, Yahweh, is the only one who can save. And one of the first things we get as a new believer, is a new life. All believers experience this newness of life, which helps set us up for success in obedience. ONLY through Jesus, can we have this. One of the first things that is affected by our faith in Jesus by becoming a believer, is the mind and how it is renewed.

But learning about how the brain works, it makes sense that this would have to be renewed and made functional. This is also how we could identify people who stated they were believers but didn’t act it out, as they can not fake the internal workings of their physical mind. You can not fake it until you make it. Truth is, if you fake it - you will never make it...

Hebrews 10:22  states, "Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts (inner mind, brain) sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.

What does this ‘from an evil conscience’ mean? The word in the Greek for 'conscience' means: a mind conscious of wrongdoing (54).  So one of the first things that Jesus does, is wash away our evil mind that longs to desire wrong things. And then teaches us to continue with the same mind as Jesus Christ.

This might not be just some ‘Biblical jargon,’ but instead, might be more scientific than we are aware of as Jesus trades our mind for one like His. And we know that the mind of Jesus would have been perfect in form and function.

Hebrews 8:10 and 10:16  states, "This is the covenant that I will make with them (my people) after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds (inner mind, intellect, brain).”

Romans 12:2, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind (inner mind, intellect, brain), that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."

Ephesians 4:23 states, "…and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds (inner mind, intellect, brain)."

The Greek word for ‘renewal’ means: a new development achieved by God's power. A change for the better, which is affected by the Holy Spirit. (57)

This 'renewal' of the mind might be more scientific than we have even scratched the surface with in the latest developments in the 21st century.

How has the medical field pushed aside this evidence?

Part of me thinks that if they really admitted that sinning has to do with brain deformity and the actions that proceed out of those who exhibit such behavior, they would have to acknowledge the God of the Bible that wrote this all down thousands of years ago and that Scripture is scientifically accurate.

I would like to end with this verse as a prayer

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds (inner mind, intellect, brain) in Christ Jesus.
